What To Watch For
After opening their 2014 season down under in Australia and then in San Diego, the Dodgers are finally ready for their home opener in Los Angeles.
After rehabbing from both left ankle and shoulder operations, Matt Kemp will make his season debut during this game. (Kemp was limited to 279 games over the last two seasons because of injuries.)
Pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu will make his third start in five games, replacing scheduled starter Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw, who’s on the disabled list with a strained muscle, is expected to be sidelined for over a month.
Dodgers fans will get their first look at MLB’s highest-paid team at Friday’s sold out game. Their 2014 payroll of $234M moved them just ahead of the NY Yankees.
Starting Pitchers: Hyun-Jin Ryu (LAD), Ryan Vogelsong (SFG)
Opening Day Lineup (Projected)
1 – Carl Crawford – LF
2 – Yasiel Puig – RF
3 – Hanley Ramirez – SS
4 – Adrian Gonzalez – 1B
5 – Andre Ethier – CF
6 – Juan Uribe – 3B
7 – A.J. Ellis – C
8 – Dee Gordon – 2B
9 – Hyun-Jin Ryu – SP
Brandon Hicks is expected to start at second base vs. the Dodgers. Since left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu is pitching against the Giants, this game should be a good time for the right-handed Hicks to have his first start as a Giant.
Hunter Pence, who went 0-for-12 in the season’s first three games, will not be sidelined. Manager Bruce Bochy will stick with Pence, an outfielder that played all 162 games last year.
Rookie infielder Ehire Adrianza, a usual shortstop, started at second base on both Wednesday and Thursday and will probably do the same on Friday.
What To Wear
Weather: Hi 68° / Lo 52° (via Accuweather)
Date/Time: Friday, April 4, at 1:10pm PST
High 60°s, while a treat for many MLB fans in the Midwest and East Coast, is a little chilly for a Dodgers’ day game.
Stick with a long-sleeve baseball tee and black skinny jeans. Pair it with a pair of cute booties because this is LA, not Minnesota.
