The United States men’s national team will play its second group match of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament on Friday night at 8:30pm against Haiti at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and here’s our match preview and Gold Cup schedule.
The early Group A match (also played at Gillette Stadium) will be Honduras vs. Panama, which will go a long way towards deciding the second-place team in the group.
The United States opened their group on Tuesday with a sloppy 2-1 win over Honduras. Haiti (surprisingly) drawing 1-1 with Panama. That means the United States are alone atop Group A and could secure a place in the knockout round with a victory. Depending on how things shake out, they could also win the group with one match against Panama — their toughest opponent — left to go. A fairly easy Gold Cup schedule through the group matches.
I expect an easy victory for the United States as they usually begin tournaments rocky, but get going around the second or third match. Haiti, though playing well against Panama, won’t play that way the entire tournament. It’ll be close for the first half, but the United States will pull away in the final 45 minutes.
Prediction: USA wins 2-0.
