It’s been a couple bad weeks in the NFL season so far, but this story about Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still is one of the most touching stories you’ll hear in a long time. Still, who was cut from the Bengals earlier this season, has a 4 year old daughter that was recently diagnosed with a kind of cancer called neuroblastoma. She’s Stage 4 and was given a 50/50 chance of survival. Still’s mind was obviously on something more important than football, so his focus and hard work didn’t show on the field, thus the reason he was cut. But...Read More
Kids say the darnedest things? In the past week, two kids, from two different fan bases have written letters to NFL players that are the stuff legends are made of. Kid #1, Nicholas, writes to Kevin Hubb, Punter for the Bengals, after his jaw was fractured from an illegal hit by Steelers LB Terence Garvin: [in case you can’t make out 7 year old handwriting] Dear Kevin, I hope you feel better soon. I am mad at the Steelers because you are my #1 player. I am 7 years old and love the Bengals and Bearcats. I know you...Read More
This is clearly the most competitive division in the AFC, with the top three teams all being legitimate contenders, and even the lowly Browns being a very tough out for opponents week in and week out. Predicted Finish Baltimore Ravens (10-6) (4th seed; AFC Divisional Round) Cincinnati Bengals (10-6) (5th seed; AFC Wildcard Round) Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7) (6th seed; AFC Wildcard Round) Cleveland Browns (7-9) Hit the title/continue reading to read more. . . The Baltimore Ravens came through for me last year – they were my preseason Super Bowl pick and they won it all. Despite the departures...Read More
The Jaguars made news the other day as becoming the 7th team in the NFL to add an official women’s fan club. Which begged the question from many readers as to what other teams around the league have fan clubs as well. In the State of the NFL Female Fan research compiled in January, we found some pretty interesting info on the NFL’s outreach, or lack there of, to a fan base that represents 45% of the league. The following is the research gathered in January on the NFL Women’s Fan Clubs: League-wide, there are currently only 6 official women’s fan clubs formed by the team itself to include the Ravens, Chargers, Colts, Broncos, Redskins and Texans. And while it’s commendable that these specific teams are making an effort to reach out to it’s female fanbase, most of the attempts are nothing more than a discount off team gear and the chance to learn the basic rules of football. Meg, member of the Raven’s Purple fan club put it perfectly when she said “There really is only one BIG event every year, which is A Purple Evening, and it sells out pretty quickly. Otherwise, it’s generally just another email newsletter that I get monthly”. In fact, the only women’s club worth noting belongs to the Colts. The CWC (Colt’s Women’s Club) is run by two out of the three...Read More
The regular season is over and the playoffs are here. For the second year in a row, I managed a winning (if unspectacular) record on picks, and unlike the New York Giants, I still make the playoffs. The wildcard round is frequently the most intriguing slate of games you will see, and while there are some great potential matchups on the horizon, this year is no different. There are four games on the slate and no absolutely no clear consensus on who is likely to move on. Hit the title/continue reading to check out the picks for the wildcard...Read More
