The eternal fight of Mario has always been to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser’s hands. But why would she want to be rescued when Bowser is the more accomplished “gentleman” complete with castles, money and land?
How does Mario just keep letting Bowser take the Princess on numerous occasions?
OR does he secretly want Peach to be kidnapped to fund his personal thirst for adventure?
These are all valid points that the internet TV show, After Hours debates in the episode centered around why Nintendo’s golden boy, Mario, is secretly a douchebag.
And their arguments can be pretty convincing…

These are all good points brought up the After Hours crew who go on to make the point that Mario irresponsibly released ravenous Yoshis throughout the entire kingdom. As many of you already know, Yoshis can eat anything. Imagine the world we would live in if Mario had his way and Yoshis were free to wander the earth eating up anything any everything? Two words: Invasive Species.
Of course many more points are made in another great debate video found below. But which side are you on?
Is Mario a douchebag or the ultimate icon hero? Let us know in the comments…
Well....Peach is a Princess and, as such, she rules Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser is a King, kind of like the Ice King, trying to find a Princess to make his Queen, and specifically trying to take over control of the Mushroom Kingdom. Obviously Peach doesn't want Bowser to take control, or else she would marry Bowser. Meanwhile Mario, who is actually quite rich from all his adventuring and also a very accomplished jack of all trades, must balance his time between the Mushroom Kingdom and his home Kingdom. It is a fact that the Mushroom Kingdom is in a different dimension from Mario's home (assumed to be New York) because Donkey Kong the original game didn't take place in the Mushroom Kingdom. When Bowser isn't kidnapping Peach, he isn't that bad of a guy. Only a tyrannical king with a hellish kingdom who likes to develop little games, castles, traps to cause pain to people. But he's also fine with playing sports and riding in karts with Mario and friends (although he still probably has evil intent). As far as the bricks, since they don't have eyes it is obvious that they aren't people. And rest assured, Mario the accomplished everything repairs whatever needs to be repaired after Bowser's invasion ends. And as for the Yoshi's, eventually they find their own island where they can eat tons of fruit in peace. I doubt they were ever much of a menace, and in the games it is clear that they consider Mario to be their friend. So yah, you can over analyze this and think Mario is some kind of selfish evil person, but that just isn't factual.
@KDahdah You should be a laywer representing Mario, Luigi and the rest of the species within the Mushroom Kingdom. Well done sir!
