We all want to look great in pictures and one has to wonder how celebrities always look so flawless in almost every picture.
The reason they always look great is most likely due to professional training on how to pose for pictures to make you look leaner, proportionate and gorgeous.
Some celebrities even go as far as to hire a full time photog coach so they are never caught in a bad angle.
If you want to look your best in pictures follow these tips by the pros on how to pose for pictures.
Secret No. 1: Turn partially sideways to the camera, planting one foot in front of the other. Point your toe to the camera and place your weight on your back foot. This will instantly make your figure appear much slimmer.
Secret No. 2: Tilt your head up slightly and try to position yourself so that the camera is a little above your eye level. This will hide a double chin fairly effectively. Bonus: try resting your tongue against the roof of your mouth as this naturally makes you keep your neck more straight. In the words of Ms. J from ANTM "Don't lose your neck!".
Secret No. 3: Don't keep your arms straight. Bend one or both slightly to avoid making the photo look artificial. You can also hold arms slightly away from your body. This keeps upper arm flab from flattening out and therefore appearing flabbier (much like thighs do when one sits on a couch).
Secret No. 4: Pull shoulders back, chest forward and gently suck stomach in. Be careful not to suck stomach so far in that your ribs show, thereby causing those who later see the photo to clearly know you are self conscious about your stomach; ultimately drawing more attention to your stomach if you hadn't sucked in at all!
Secret No. 5: One trick models often use is to present a 3/4 pose to the camera (turn your head so that 3/4 of your face is exposed to the camera, as opposed to a full frontal shot) and then lift your neck and slightly tilt your head down, as though you are a turkey sticking its head out (without actually thrusting your chin out). This improves facial definition and helps ameliorate wrinkles and flabby skin
When taking a photo it's also important the photographer does not snap the picture from below. This adds another 20-50 pounds to the 10 pounds automatically and annoyingly added by the camera.
Use objects you are holding to your advantage by placing them in front of parts of you you'd prefer to hide. A purse or corsage in front of your belly. A jacket slung over the shoulder. (Gwyneth Paltrow used a perfectly placed purse to hide her baby bump before she announced her pregnancy with Apple).
In closing, practice really does make perfect. As cheesy as it sounds, take pictures of yourself from all kinds of angles and then see which angle you like the best. Next time you're out in public, remember which pose looked the best for you and recreate it.
