A beautiful makeover is best viewed as a work of art. Before an artist begins to apply color, he first "primes" his canvas with white paint, which has good coverage, so that he can mask the imperfections in the material. On a white background, he can use any color he desires to create the effect he wants.
Similarly, when doing a makeover, the makeup artist, creates the same "starting point" using foundation. Naturally, she cannot use white but must select a foundation that perfectly matches her client's natural skin color. The ideal foundation must have good coverage but should not leave the skin looking pink, orange, ashy or two-toned. The only color used on the cheek and eye area, should come from blush and eye shadow, not from the foundation!
